Venue

The Summer School Reasoning Web 2008 is organised by the Network of Excellence REWERSE and the Università degli Studi di Padova and hosted on San Servolo Island, Venice, Italy.

Venice

The city of Venice (in Italian, Venezia) is the capital of the Italian region Veneto and included in the Padova-Venezia Metropolitan Area, which has a population of more than one and a half million. Because of its unique setting on more than 100 islands in a lagoon, its famous canals, its architectural and cultural opulence and rich history, Venice is one of the best-known tourist attractions worldwide.

San Servolo

The island of San Servolo is located in the Venetian lagoon, between Venice's historic centre and the island of Lido. It is a park-like oasis covering an area of over 40 000 m2 in lively urban surroundings.

It is the only island in the lagoon owned by the Provincial Authority, which after substantial reconstruction and maintenance work transformed it into a focal point of art, study, and research. Today, the island hosts, among others, the Venice International University (a collaboration among 10 universities around the world), the European centre of Craftmanship for artisans, and a convention centre with an attached lodging facility.

San Servolo can be reached from Piazza San Marco, the heart of Venice, within 10 minutes by boat, and from Venice International airport "Marco Polo" within 20 minutes.
