Venue
The Summer School Reasoning Web 2007 is organised by the Network of Excellence REWERSE and hosted by the Biotechnological Centre (Biotec) of the Technical University of Dresden (TUD), Germany. The courses are given on a campus close to the historical centre of Dresden.
Dresden
Dresden is the capital and with about half a million inhabitants one of the major cities of Saxony, a federal state of Germany. Dresden is situated between Berlin and Prague just north of the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, in the valley of the Elbe river. Dresden is famous for its cultural and architectural wealth, much of which was reconstructed only recently after near-total destruction during World War II. Dresden's location adjacent to picturesque countrysides also attracts many visitors.
Hosting Institution
The Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) was founded in 1828, which makes it one of the oldest technical universities in Germany. It consists of 14 faculties and several other units and has about 35 thousand students.
The Faculty of Computer Science has a staff of 28 professors and about 200 teaching and research assistants, teaching more than 3000 students. It covers the whole range of computer science, offering 12 kinds of study programmes. In accordance with the faculty's strong international orientation, some of these programmes use English as the teaching language.
The Biotechnological Centre (Biotec) of the Technische Universität Dresden is an interdisciplinary centre for research and education in molecular bio-engineering. Its staff includes members from the Faculty of Computer Science and from other faculties of the Technische Universität Dresden as well as from many other research institutions.
Campus
The school will take place in the Biotec, the biotechnological centre of TU Dresden. It is part of the medical campus of TU Dresden and situated east of the city centre. For travel instructions, see Biotec's visiting address and directions.
Accommodation
The main Summer School hotel is the hotel IBIS Dresden Bastei, situated in the city centre close to Dresden's main attractions such as the Church of Our Lady, Zwinger, Opera, and the unique treasure collection "Green Vault". The hotel is 5 minutes walking from the main railway station and 15 minutes by bus (four kilometers) from the school's venue.
